Strong presence in Berlin aims at boosting exports
Turkey is FRUIT LOGISTICA 2012 partner country
As next year's partner country, Turkey announced its biggest ever presentation at Fruit Logistica 2012. The world's leading trade fair for the fresh fruit and vegetable business takes place at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds for the twentieth time on 8 -10 February 2012. According to Messe Berlin COO Dr. Christian Göke, "With its wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables, Turkey is a key trading partner for Germany, the European Union and many other countries around the world. Turkey's steadily growing presence at FRUIT LOGISTICA in recent years reflects the country's increasing importance as a producer, exporter and trading partner for the global fresh produce sector".
According to information from the Mediterranean Exporters Unions, Turkey produced 43 million tonnes of fruit and vegetables last year and exported 6.7 per cent of its total production (2.9 million tonnes). Prime exports included citrus fruit (1.2 million t), fresh vegetables (1 million t) and other fresh fruits (637,000 t). Key trading partners are Russia (36%) and Germany (9%), Bulgaria, Ukraine, Iraq and Romania. The total value of fruit and vegetables exported from Turkey reached USD 2.1 billion last year. The nation is planning to increase this figure to USD 10 billion by 2023. It's presence as the Fruit Logistica 2012 partner country is aimed at helping Turkey achieve this ambitious goal.
Turkey has sponsored a national stand at FRUIT LOGISTICA every year since 2000. This presence has been organised by the Mediterranean Exporters Unions.
